Featured Feline: Johnny Walker

This weeks Featured Feline is Johnny Walker. Little Johnny loves people and gets along well with other cats and respects dogs that are well behaved.

This is no scaredy black cat. No siree. This special guy loves people and will welcome your house guests and greet them like an English butler with his polite manners and jolly belly. He gets along well with other cats and respects dogs that are well behaved.

Johnny is one and a half years old and enjoys the outdoors. Hence he loves to run out onto the balcony, climb the furniture and run around, soak in the fresh air and relax on the lounge chair. All he’s missing is a glass of whiskey!

Johnny is a handsome, all black cat. If you ever had a black cat, you will know they are special. Black cats tend to be more social with people in general and not “scaredy” cats like most myths. He does well in public and sits on shopping cart at PetSmart, laying quietly atop his white cat throne (with collar and leash attached). Oh yes, he’s quite the model and poses well for photos.

A Special Message From The Cat Network

Dear fellow cat lover and The Cat Network, Inc. supporter,

Thank you for your continued support of The Cat Network Inc. 2011 has been a memorable year for feline advocates of South Florida as our all volunteer group helped sterilize 6,100 cats. To date, our low cost spay/neuter program, which has over 40 participating veterinarians in Miami-Dade and Broward County, has allowed our members to fix over 61,000 cats since 1995 when the organization was founded.

The Cat Network, Inc.’s mobile surgical unit, The Meow Mobile, has grown so popular that events throughout particular areas of need in Miami are booked weeks in advance. The Meow Mobile team of veterinarian, Dr. Marc Kramer, and veterinary technician, Eliana Ardila, have helped fix 2,850 cats in 2011 alone. You can visit The Meow Mobile’s website for more information about a spay/neuter event in your area: www.meowmobile.com

It has also been a fantastic year for finding forever homes for the cats and kittens in our foster program. The Cat Network, Inc. volunteers have adopted out over 535 rescued cats and kittens in 2011. To date, our adoption referral program has placed nearly 8,000 cats in loving homes. Click on the attached video link for a photo montage of our efforts.

In addition to our local adoption efforts, The Cat Network, Inc. has partnered with sister group, Last Chance Animal Rescue, a non-profit organization in Waldorf, Maryland, to help save shelter kitties. Due to cold winters, kittens are scarce up north, and Last Chance Animal Rescue gladly accepts homeless kittens from our local shelter. In an extraordinary show of team effort, shelter staff ensures the kittens are healthy, The Cat Network, Inc. volunteers foster the felines pending transport, and two volunteers drive 18 hours to Maryland in a van filled with tiny meowers. In 2011, The Cat Network, Inc. helped transfer 386 shelter kittens to Last Chance Animal Rescue. To date, The Cat Network, Inc. has rescued almost 500 shelter kittens in just the two years since this life saving effort began.

None of these accomplishments would be possible but for the support and generosity of persons such as yourself. The Cat Network, Inc. is so grateful to the individuals like you who strongly believe that every community cat, whether beautiful and adoptable or scraggly and feral, deserves to live. The Cat Network, Inc. is committed to the mission of helping overcome the severe cat overpopulation in South Florida. Your donation this year will certainly help our efforts to continue helping homeless cats. You can donate online at: http://www.causes.com/campaigns/77526?cause_id=73605

Thank you and Happy Holidays,
The Cat Network, Inc.

Groupon Special: If 30 People Donate $10, Then The Cat Network Can Fund 15 Foster-Kitten Care Packages

More than 60 million cats currently live on the streets in the United States, according to data collected by the Feral Cat Coalition. If these cats are not spayed or neutered, they can act out with violence and breed rapidly, prompting many shelters to trap and euthanize them. The Cat Network of Florida supports the live sterilization of rescued cats and kittens, and finds them permanent homes with adoption-referral efforts and a comprehensive system of cat foster care.

To help improve the live release rate of feral cats in the Miami-Dade County area, The Cat Network’s transfer program places cats from shelters into foster homes, and then removes them to animal-rescue groups with high adoption rates. Foster families shelter cats for 10 days, feeding them, playing with them, and providing any necessary medical treatment. The Cat Network would like to provide kitten care packages to help foster families ease the cats’ transitions into their temporary homes. Each kitten care package contains a blanket and enough canned and dry cat food to feed between six and eight cats for a week.

Join G-Team and donate $10 to help foster families care for feral cats and kittens. If G-Team members raise $300, then The Cat Network can fund 15 foster-kitten care packages with food and blankets. Each additional $20 raised will fund another foster care package.

Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don’t offer you a “discount” or “savings.” When you click “Buy” to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma.

Please help us reach our goal by donating and spreading the worl to your family and friends.

Will you please help by donating $10 here: http://www.groupon.com/deals/gt-the-cat-network-of-florida

Thank you!
