More than 60 million cats currently live on the streets in the United States, according to data collected by the Feral Cat Coalition. If these cats are not spayed or neutered, they can act out with violence and breed rapidly, prompting many shelters to trap and euthanize them. The Cat Network of Florida supports the live sterilization of rescued cats and kittens, and finds them permanent homes with adoption-referral efforts and a comprehensive system of cat foster care.
To help improve the live release rate of feral cats in the Miami-Dade County area, The Cat Network’s transfer program places cats from shelters into foster homes, and then removes them to animal-rescue groups with high adoption rates. Foster families shelter cats for 10 days, feeding them, playing with them, and providing any necessary medical treatment. The Cat Network would like to provide kitten care packages to help foster families ease the cats’ transitions into their temporary homes. Each kitten care package contains a blanket and enough canned and dry cat food to feed between six and eight cats for a week.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help foster families care for feral cats and kittens. If G-Team members raise $300, then The Cat Network can fund 15 foster-kitten care packages with food and blankets. Each additional $20 raised will fund another foster care package.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don’t offer you a “discount” or “savings.” When you click “Buy” to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma.
Please help us reach our goal by donating and spreading the worl to your family and friends.

Thank you!
“We have warm weather all year round down here, so we have kitten season all year long.”
- Jill Steinberg, The Cat Network
In warm climates, feral cats thrive. South Florida is home to 500,000 stray cats with a constant influx of new litters on the way.
The Cat Network is the main nonprofit addressing this problem. We foster cats, get them spayed and neutered, adopt them out – they even transport kittens to colder climates during the winter to get them adopted. And rather than having a massive adoption center housing hundreds of cats for upkeep, we do it all through a network of local foster homes and veterinarians.
And we are extremely good at what we do.
“By the end of next year, we’ll have helped the public spay and neuter almost 80,000 cats since 1995,” says Board Secretary Jill Steinberg. “I you take the equation that 2 cats can become 400,000 cats in 7 years, we’ve taken the population down by 2.8 million.”
Population control is a big part of our job. Another is just making sure we are keeping the population healthy and free from epidemic.
Rabies can spread quickly and quietly, lurking for 7-10 days before animals show symptoms. And feral cats are at major risk.
Your donation through Philanthroper will go to vaccinate cats from rabies. $3 immunizes one cat against rabies.
“It’s a requirement by law that all animals get rabies vaccines,” says Steinberg. “Plus it’s just being a good neighbor, because there are raccoons and foxes around here, and they do have the capability of carrying rabies.”

In honor of Alley Cat Allies National Feral Cat Day 2011, 201 cats & kitties were brought for sterilization at Sunday’s spayathon. 194 were actually fixed at the event, 7 had been previously sterilized. Thank you to Miami-Dade County Commissioner Lynda Bell who sponsored the event, and to Miami Dade Animal Services who organized the spayathon.
“Pets bring tremendous joy into our lives and ensuring that they are properly spayed or neutered guarantees that the stray animal population is controlled. It’s the responsible thing to do for our little friends and our community,” said Commissioner Bell. “Spaying and neutering, and responsible pet ownership are essential in the effort to reduce populations of free-roaming and community cats. Working together we can help homeless pets find a home,” said Alex Muñoz, Director, Miami-Dade Animal Services Department.
Thank you also to The Cat Network, Inc. volunteers who helped at the event, and thank you also to The Humane Society of Greater Miami who hosted the spayathon at their facility.
To all those who participated by spreading the word about the event, volunteering, or who brought a cat for sterilization- excellent job! Each cat fixed brings us one paw closer to reducing the number of homeless cats in our community.

Just think of how much good we could bring to our community every day with an entire year’s supply of fuel to operate the Meow Mobile, our low cost mobile spay/neuter clinic for cats.
We need your daily vote from September 29 through October 27 to win. Vote at this easy to remember URL: vote4cats.com
